A Day of Gratitude and Support for Those Who Served |
On a crisp Friday morning, the community gathered at the Triple N Shooting Range to participate in the McCormick Research Institute’s 2nd Annual Clays Classic for Veterans.
This event, dedicated to honoring and supporting veterans, showcased the institute’s commitment to transformative equine therapy programs.
McCormick CEO and County Commissioner Ricky Booth led the event, joined by Florida Lt. Governor Jay Collins, State Representative Erika Booth, and State Representative Paula Stark.
Their presence underscored a unified support for veterans and their families who benefit from McCormick’s services.
Lt. Governor Collins addressed the attendees, expressing heartfelt appreciation for their dedication to uplifting those who have served.
The day commenced with a solemn tribute by McCormick’s veteran-based horse team, setting a tone of reverence.
Following this, Hailey Wall delivered a stirring rendition of the National Anthem, evoking a deep sense of patriotism among participants.
Attendees then engaged in friendly competition on the shooting range, fostering camaraderie and teamwork.
Supporters, local businesses, organizations, and volunteers united with a shared mission: to give back to the men and women who have sacrificed for the nation’s freedom.
Since its inception in 2002 as Heavenly Hooves, founded by horse enthusiast Thomasa Sanchez in Osceola County, the McCormick Research Institute has been dedicated to healing through the therapeutic power of horses.
Over the years, the organization has expanded its services, including the Horses & Heroes Program launched in 2011 in partnership with the University of Central Florida College of Medicine, serving veterans coping with PTSD and other service-related challenges.
In 2014, the organization was renamed McCormick Research Institute, honoring Ruth “Bazy” McCormick Tankersley, a philanthropist and equestrian figure devoted to community service.
Today, McCormick serves over 20,000 riders, supported by 12 therapy horses, more than 100 active volunteers, and a dedicated staff, solidifying its status as a national leader in equine-assisted therapy, research, and education.
McCormick’s programs for veterans, individuals with disabilities, and children with special needs rely heavily on community support.
Every donation contributes to funding equine therapy sessions, horse care, research initiatives, and programs like Horses & Heroes and Heavenly Hooves.
