Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital Enhances Cardiac Care with New Cath Labs and ICU |
State-of-the-art facilities aim to improve heart attack treatment and patient recovery in Osceola County |
Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital has unveiled a significant expansion, introducing two advanced cardiac catheterization labs and a 10-bed intensive care unit (ICU) to bolster heart care services in Osceola County.
Dr. PK Patel, an interventional cardiologist at the hospital, emphasized the critical need for these facilities, noting that the area experiences a major heart attack nearly every other night. "Time is essential. Every single minute you waste, heart muscles are dying," Dr. Patel stated.
Previously, patients suffering severe heart attacks required transport to Orlando, a journey that could exceed an hour. The new cath labs will enable immediate, life-saving interventions locally, significantly reducing treatment times and improving patient outcomes.
The expansion also includes 10 spacious ICU rooms equipped with state-of-the-art technology, such as digital whiteboards and cameras for virtual consultations with specialists. A notable feature is the ability to frost glass doors at the push of a button, enhancing patient privacy and reducing the risk of hospital-acquired infections.
Brian Wetzel, president of Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital, highlighted the hospital's commitment to providing world-class healthcare close to home. "We are thrilled to bring this needed expansion to our Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital campus as it allows us to continue to enhance our care capabilities and to provide, close to home, world-class healthcare to this community that we so proudly serve," Wetzel said.
The $32 million, two-story, 20,000-square-foot expansion is part of Orlando Health's broader mission to improve health and quality of life across the region. The new facilities are expected to open in January 2026, providing patients with faster, more advanced treatments without needing to travel outside the community.
With these enhancements, Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital is poised to become the city's first facility meeting the standards to treat ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), the most severe type of heart attack. The hospital expects to meet all STEMI receiving criteria by summer 2026.
These developments mark a significant milestone in the hospital's ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive, high-quality care to the residents of Osceola County. |
