City Council addresses community concerns with decisive actions |
The St. Cloud City Council has decided to continue the suspension of operations for Toho Riverboat Adventures until January 2025, allowing time for potential investors to acquire the business.
This decision follows the arrest of the company's owner, Richard Lawrence, and his fiancée, Frances Fernandez, on serious felony charges.
Local businessman Bobby Crisp expressed his commitment to preserving the riverboat attraction, emphasizing its significance to the community and tourism.
Deputy Mayor Shawn Fletcher commended the community's proactive efforts to resolve the issue.
In a separate matter, the Council unanimously rejected a mediated settlement with Hickory Tree Industrial, LLC, which operates a concrete crushing plant on Hickory Tree Road.
Residents from nearby neighborhoods voiced concerns about increased dust and noise pollution affecting their quality of life.
Mayor Chris Robertson acknowledged the importance of concrete recycling but emphasized that the current location is unsuitable.
Deputy Mayor Shawn Fletcher advocated for pursuing an injunction to cease the plant's operations, stressing the need for adherence to established procedures.
Additionally, the Council approved reallocating funds from the Downtown Revitalization Project to other downtown improvements, including underground electrical work, street furniture, an electronic message board, and safety enhancements.
To comply with recent state legislation, the Council also amended city codes to prohibit public camping or sleeping at public buildings or in public rights-of-way, with violations subject to fines and potential jail time.
These actions reflect the Council's dedication to addressing community concerns and enhancing the quality of life in St. Cloud. |
